NASA Ames Research Center won the FLC Far West Software Award for Outstanding Technology Development for the NASA TLX for iOS
(Jul 17, 2018)
The NASA Task Load Index (TLX) for iOS has won the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Far West Software Award 2018 in the area of Outstanding Technology Development. This is an award given to a federal laboratory and staff for a promising technology development to: solve problems; satisfy markets and consumers; create patents and awards; or any areas related to the above. The awards presentation will be made in August 29, 2018 in Oklahoma City.
NASA Task Load Index (TLX) for iOS is a creative, state-of-the-art solution for the measurement and assessment of operator workload with new, complex systems being developed for NASA, other government, and commercial organizations. The NASA TLX for iOS app innovates new usability, and provides an expanded reach for the TLX methodology. NASA TLX for iOS is an order of magnitude leap in the state-of-the-art from the previous desktop PC version, and encapsulates the original gold-standard, complex, subjective nature of the NASA TLX. The NASA TLX for iOS development implemented a workload rating scale that - unlike all other software implementations of TLX - uniquely and accurately captures the critical variations of perceived workload while avoiding sources of emotional bias. NASA TLX for iOS is the result of a meticulous endeavor to bring this workload measure methodology into the modern age. It offers several innovative key features that benefit both the researchers and participants, none of which are available in the legacy, Windows NT-based desktop version of the TLX or in other app versions of TLX produced by third parties.
