Division Chief of NASA's Human Systems Integration Division publishes journal article providing insight into a critical, yet seldom-studied aspect of Artificial Intelligence
(Jun 28, 2019)
In March of 2019, AI magazine published an article titled “No AI Is an Island: The Case for Teaming Intelligence”, in which researchers Matthew Johnson (Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition ) and Alonso Vera (Division Chief, NASA Human Systems Integration Division) draw attention to an aspect of AI which plays a critical role in technology’s effectiveness, namely teaming intelligence. Drawing from NASA’s expertise in human-computer interaction (HCI), the authors propose that AI will only reach its full potential if it has sufficient teaming intelligence to work in harmony with people. In spite of the increasingly autonomous nature of today’s developing technologies, the more advanced the system, the greater the need for these teaming skills.

The abstract and PDF download for the article can be found here- https://aaai.org/ojs/index.php/aimagazine/article/view/2842.
