National Campaign (NC) and partner Joby Aviation conduct first ever flight test with all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft
(Oct 25, 2021)
In September 2021, members of NASA Ames' Airspace Operations Laboratory (AOL) representing the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) National Campaign (NC) subproject supported a significant flight test with Joby Aviation. This event marked the first time the National Campaign ever completed a flight test with an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Over the course of two and a half weeks, the Joby Aviation eVTOL aircraft flew a series of scenarios. The goal of this flight test was to collect vehicle performance and acoustic data for use in modeling and simulation of future airspace concepts. A primary focus of the AOL was to receive inbound ADS-B data from the eVTOL and to push the data to the Airspace Operations Management (AOM) visualization system and database.

This flight test was a major milestone for AAM in the U.S and served as a baseline for future aircraft readiness tests with more industry partners. For more information on the National Campaign’s flight test with Joby, visit https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-ames-supports-joby-flight-tests.
