Air Traffic Controller Usage of Terminal-Area Speed Advisories (2012)
This paper analyzes data from multiple human- in-the-loop simulations, hoping to inform the design of air traffic controller decision support tools. More precisely, Terminal Area simulations including high-density arrival flows and precision runway scheduling presented controllers with speed advisories; suggested speeds that, if issued to the aircraft, would support delivering the aircraft to the runway on schedule while minimizing the need for vectors. Data from multiple simulations will compare the speed advisories displayed to the controllers against the speed advisories the controllers actually issued to the aircraft.
